Since there are three main classes of antidepressant drugs, we are 3 times more likely to find one that “might” work. However; an antidepressant medication that works for one person, may not work for another the same way. That is why finding an antidepressant that works for you is nothing more than a guessing game for your doctor, and that is also why the Depression Free Method is available.
How long will it take to find the right one, and what side effects will you suffer from one to the next? It could be many or few depending on what you take. There is another option though, and that is to avoid antidepressant medications altogether.
The 3 main classes of antidepressants drugs are MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), TCAs (tricyclics and SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Of the 3, the MAOIs were the first developed and have been reported to have some very threatening side effects such as increase in blood pressure, pretty important diet modifications, and can have potentially deadly consequences if taken with certain other medications (two of which should NEVER be prescribed to you at the same time).
Tricyclic antidepressants also have side effects which are known to be a little less scary, but if you consider weight gain scary, you will want to avoid this type of antidepressant since it is a very common side effect. As well, this type has been known to cause dizziness, low blood pressure and even seizures.
Lastly SSRIs which seem to be the lesser of the three evils in the side effect department. While they still exist, they are much less pronounced. According to statistics, SSRIs seem to be less disturbing to your life style than the others mentioned.
Problem is, ALL of them have some kind of side effect and it is then that you have to determine if it is even worth it. You see commercials on TV (again) from law firms telling you that if you took this or that medication (many are antidepressants), call them ASAP. It doesn’t sit well when you have alternatives that do not causes these types of problems. The Depression Free Method can help and simply said, it will help safely!
